My name is Debbie Pifer. I am a 1981
summa cum laude graduate of The Ohio State University in agricultural
economics. My parents, my brother and my husband and I own
and operate the 200 acre White House Fruit Farm in Canfield,
Ohio. Our 129 year old farm grows and retails apples, peaches,
strawberries, blueberries, sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins,
squash, and other vegetables in our year around 12,000 square foot
market. We also operate a deli, bake-off bakery, and sell many
specialty foods. We give school tours, host an annual craft show
and hot dog roast, and give horse drawn wagon rides in the fall.
Although we do many entertainment activities, our true love and focus
is our market.
I have served as President of the
Ohio Direct Agricultural Marketing Association, Chairman of the Farm
Markets of Ohio Advisory Committee, President of Salem Fruit Growers
Cooperative, and am currently a member of the Ohio Apple Marketing
Committee. I have been a NAFDMA member for 5 years. I
believe that my contribution to the NAFDMA Board could be serving those
market owners that do not focus on entertainment. I strongly
believe that there is still economic strength in growing and selling to
consumers good food in a clean, fun, and profitable manner.
I believe that the NAFDMA Board
should be comprised of individuals from all sides of direct marketing
to maintain a balance of experiences. As a third generation Ohio
fruit and vegetable grower/marketer, I know many other marketers from
the Midwest region. I hope to bring many years of marketing
experience to the Board. |
